Hands are interesting little creations, aren’t they? At their most basic, they don’t really look all that… nice. They’re kind of weird and, frankly, spidery. And yet, it’s entirely possible to have beautiful looking hands. And knowing how to have beautiful hands can help you achieve that goal–giving yourself a little confidence boost at the same time.
The Trick to Knowing How to Have Beautiful Hands
One of the reasons that hands look so interesting in the first place is because they contain a lot of stuff: tendons, ligaments, bones, and so on. But they also exhibit incredibly thin skin (usually), so it’s easy to see all that stuff just below the surface.
This gets worse as you get older. The skin tends to become ever thinner. And this can lead to some people feeling a little self-conscious about the way their hands look. Knowing how to have beautiful hands, then, becomes more and more challenging as the years go on. There are cosmetic and plastic surgery options for helping to make your hands look a little more youthful. And there are some things you can do to preserve the youth your hands do still express. Knowing how to have beautiful hands is sometimes just a matter of knowledge.
What Makes for a Beautiful Hand?
The first question, of course, is what makes for a beautiful hand in the first place? And that’s going to be wildly subjective. Beauty, after all, is always in the eyes of the beholder (as it should be). So there’s no universal standard for hands. So when you look at your own hands, what is it you’re happy with? Or what do you wish you’d see?
For many–though not for all–beautiful hands tend to have some of the following characteristics:
- Smooth skin
- Skin that is not translucent
- Smooth features
- Long and elegant fingers within a certain proportion
You can see what I mean by subjective. None of these characteristics are universally beautiful, but they fit into that category commonly enough. Many of these characteristics are, perhaps not surprisingly, associated with youth. So does making your hands look more beautiful mean making your hands look more youthful? Well, for some patients it might.
How to Keep Hands Looking More Youthful
So can you keep your hands looking more youthful? First, it’s helpful to understand that “youthful” mostly pertains to the skin. That’s because the markers of aging that we see in the hands are typically most associated with the skin. Thankfully, there are some ways that you can keep the skin around your hands (and everywhere else) looking nice:
- Avoid the sun: At least, without adequate protection. Sunlight can, somewhat paradoxically, wreak havoc with your skin. The same goes for artificial tanning. Wear sunscreen and you might have more youthful looking hands for a bit longer.
- Avoid smoking: There’s almost nothing worse for your hands (or your health, generally) than smoking. Smoking nicotine products–even if you’re just vaping–is going to lead to wrinkles.
- Stay hydrated: Sun and smoke are bad, water is good. Staying well hydrated on a daily basis can help keep your skin looking nice, smooth, and youthful.
Of course, all of these are relatively small things that add up over time. What if it’s already too late? What if your hands already look as though they’ve aged quite a bit faster than the rest of your body? Even in this case, you have options.
Cosmetic Procedures for Hands
If you want to make your hands look more youthful than they currently do, there are several options you could look into. Many hand surgeons offer rejuvenating procedures–such as dermal filler injections or “hand lift” surgeries. These procedures are designed to rejuvenate the hand and make it appear a bit more youthful.
Of course, it’s entirely up to you whether those procedures are warranted or worth it. The hands are important first because we use them so often and second because they’re such a significant component of everyday body language. You see your hands all the time. If you want, then, knowing how to have beautiful hands could help you feel great about the way you look every time you see them.
