Summary: There are many ways to get what you want in life. Although, there’s that old saying: no pain, no gain. Sometimes, though, what you want is gain without all the pain. For a long time, that was impossible in the world of cosmetic surgery. Since the advent of Botox, however, non invasive alternatives have been growing in popularity—and in capability.

Four Great Non Invasive Alternatives to Surgery

Looking great doesn’t always have to mean going under the knife. It’s true that there are plenty of plastic surgery procedures that generate fantastic results—they can make you look and feel wonderful, youthful, and energized. But they aren’t always necessary.

In fact, many patients can get amazing (if not comparable) results without having to go under the knife. In recent years, there have been a crop of non surgical alternative treatments pop up that are designed to meet the demands of patients who want results—but who don’t want surgery.

So we’re presenting four great non invasive alternatives to you today. Each of these procedures is designed to augment or replace its surgical cousin. It’s kind of like the difference between a Coke and a Diet Coke. The diet version will never totally replace its sugary counterpart, but it’s good that they both exist.

Number One: Non Surgical Nose Job

Perhaps the most popular non invasive alternative is the non surgical nose job. This procedure, originally developed in Los Angeles by Dr. Alexander Rivkin, is designed to increase the volume of the nose without the need for any type of surgical procedure.

During a non surgical nose job, dermal fillers are injected into strategic areas of the nose. These dermal fillers (originally developed to mitigate lines and wrinkles), safely and temporarily increase the volume of the nose, making the nose somewhat malleable. In other words, by adding a small amount of volume to targeted areas, surgeons are able to generate pleasing results without the need for surgery.

Now a non surgical nose job cannot enact drastic changes, but it can change the nose enough for you to love what you see in the mirror.

Number Two: CoolSculpting

Another procedure that’s earned a kind of staying power is called CoolSculpting. This weight loss procedure essentially uses cold to eliminate unwanted fat cells. The hand piece of the device allows for excellent direction, meaning that cosmetic surgeons can achieve a certain amount of control—contouring the body as they eliminate fat.

It can take several weeks for CoolSculpting results to manifest, and those results do tend to often be on the subtle side. But for patients who are looking to eliminate a particularly stubborn, small area of fat without going under the knife. There’s not really any recovery period for CoolSculpting. In most cases, patients are able to return to normal activities the same day.

Number Three: Kybella

So you’ve got a little bit of extra skin under your chin, but you don’t want to get surgery in order to get rid of it. The answer is a non invasive injectable called Kybella. Fairly new to the market, Kybella is actually able to eliminate submental fat with nothing more than an injection.

That’s because Kybella is composed of synthetic versions of the natural molecules in your body that break down fat. That means more fat gets broken down in the injection site, and the “double-chin” goes away. It can take a few months to see optimal results, but Kybella is revolutionizing body contouring around the chin.

Number Four: Botox

Okay, this one is a no brainer. Botox is used as a kind of non surgical facelift. Along with other injectables, such as Dermal fillers, Botox is able to eliminate lines and wrinkles in the face. There is, quite simply, no other cosmetic surgery procedure that comes close to being as popular as Botox.

Botox is a neuromodulator. Essentially, it works by forcing the muscles in your face (around the injection site) to relax. Once the muscles are relaxed, the wrinkle is mitigated. There may be some bruising or redness around the injection site, but that usually diminishes in a day or two—and the results last for months. For many patients, Botox is infinitely easier and more pleasant than something more surgical, such as a facelift.

Surgery vs. Non-Surgical

To a certain extent, these “non surgical alternatives” aren’t really alternatives. There’s no way for a non-invasive alternative to be as effective and as flexible as a surgical technique. Just as there’s no way for Diet Coke to taste as great as Coke.

Results from non invasive techniques are generally more subtle and can sometimes even be temporary. But for some patients, that’s ideal—that’s how they want it. The point of non invasive techniques is to give those patients who want more options the ability to finally get what they want without surgery.
